PRACTICAL ESSENTIALS OF GC
Module #5: GC Detectors

Presenter: Diane Turner (Anthias Consulting)

On-DEMAND

This 1 hour online learning seminar on the practical essentials of detectors in gas chromatography. This is a genuine learning tool. This course covers in detail the different detectors in GC and does not include mass spectrometers.

This is one course of a 10-part 'Practical Essentials of GC' learning series. Each individual course/module is priced at US$87, with the full series priced at US$597. The full series is listed below:

What will you gain from the course?
You will learn about the different detectors available in gas chromatography, their relative sensitivities, dynamic ranges and how to choose the best detector for your analysis. This webinar will provide you with practical knowledge to go back to your lab, select the best detector for your analysis and optimise it.

What does it cover?

  • The advantages and disadvantages of universal and selective detectors
  • What to look for in a detector including sensitivity and dynamic range
  • The different types of GC detectors including FID, ECD, TCD, FPD, NPD, PID, SCD/NCD, ASD, IRD
  • How to choose the best detector(s) for your analysis and optimise the importance of optimising parameters
  • Splitting your column effluent between multiple detectors

Who should attend?
This course is ideal for those with a basic knowledge of gas chromatography and with a wish to learn in more detail about the different components and key considerations within a gas chromatograph and GC method. Combine this with the other topics in the Practical Essentials of GC range to get a full, detailed view of gas chromatography.

About the Instructor
Diane Turner graduated from the University of Warwick, UK with an MSc in Analytical Chemistry after developing a technique in GC during her research project. After starting her career as an analytical chemist she established an applications laboratory specialising in GC and GC-MS. Since 2005 Diane has been a trainer and consultant in Gas Chromatography, GCxGC, GC-MS and related techniques where she shares her expertise and knowledge working with both instrument manufacturers and end-users. Diane is a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the British Mass Spectrometry Society, a ChemNet ambassador and a Women’s Enterprise ambassador.
