An Introduction to HPLC
Workshops > An Introduction to HPLC

Monday, July 09, 2012, The Marion Davis Library and Lecture Centre, Auckland, NZ
9 July, 2012
Marion Davis Library, The University Of Auckland, New Zealand

Price: US$ 795 (for one-day course, including refreshments, lunch and workshop materials)

This is a one-day short course in the fundamentals of
high-performance liquid chromatography

Who should take this course?
This course is designed for beginners in liquid chromatography. No prior experience is needed, although those with some laboratory experience will certainly benefit more than those with no experience at all. New workers in the lab, scientists from other disciplines that have to use HPLC as a tool, laboratory managers, and quality assurance staff will all benefit from this course.

What does it cover?
This one-day class is an overview of HPLC and where it fits into the analytical chemistry process. It covers both hardware and the separation process. An introduction to the different modes of HPLC and most of the common detectors is included.

•  What HPLC is and how it fits in the chromatography family
•  How HPLC equipment works – the parts and what they do
•  What is so important about the HPLC column and how it works
•  Reversed-phase HPLC – why it forms the foundation of most methods
•  Other separation modes – when reversed-phase doesn’t do the job
•  Integration and quantification – how to get information from chromatograms

What will I get from this course?
You will become familiar with HPLC equipment and the process it uses to separate chemical mixtures. You will learn what the options are in terms of columns, separation modes, and detectors. You will have an understanding of how to covert the data you have collected into information about the sample. You will receive a printed copy of the slides included in this course plus notes on the most important points for each slide. The instructor is available to answer student questions during the class.
