AnalytiChem has introduced a range of CONOSTAN gas chromatography standards for determining benzene and toluene in spark-ignition fuels. The ASTM D3606 GC standards cover the complete analytical workflow through products from a single source.

Laboratories use the ASTM D3606 test method to measure benzene and toluene in fuels for internal combustion engines. Benzene regulations and the effects of aromatic content on emissions and fuel quality require refiners, blenders, and testing laboratories to verify these compounds against permitted limits. Testing also supports process optimization and gasoline-blending quality control.

Accurate hydrocarbon analysis under ASTM D3606 requires laboratories to verify GC performance, achieve precise peak resolution, manage internal standards, and maintain system cleanliness between sample runs.

The new CONOSTAN range contains 19 products. These include calibration curve kits and check standards for procedures A and B, neat internal standards, and system-suitability solutions. AnalytiChem produces the certified reference materials at its ISO 17034-accredited CONOSTAN Manufacturing Center.

Laboratories can select kits with internal standards included or choose unspiked kits and neat internal standards for workflows that manage these materials separately.

“Through the long heritage of the CONOSTAN brand and our subsequent understanding of the petrochemical industry, we recognised the need for trusted, certified, GC standards to cover the complete ASTM D3606 workflow from one source,” remarks Kimberly Halkiotis, Global Segment Leader Materials at AnalytiChem.

“We developed our new CONOSTAN D3606 GC Standards range to give analysts complete confidence in their results at every stage of GC analysis for this key ASTM method which assesses the quality and safety of fuels—from calibration and verification, through to method maintenance and validation.”

The CONOSTAN range includes hundreds of ISO 17034-accredited certified reference materials. Its portfolio covers sulfur in petroleum, total acid number, total base number, viscosity, and flashpoint standards. Laboratories, refineries, and research teams use CONOSTAN products worldwide.
