Biotech Fluidics has introduced SPEedy, a compact device designed to give laboratories greater control over solid phase extraction sample preparation without an external vacuum.
Traditional SPE workflows can involve manual manifolds connected to vacuum sources or positive-pressure instruments that need a constant gas supply. SPEedy removes the need for this equipment while supporting any adsorption chemistry or eluent composition, according to Biotech Fluidics.
Small enough to fit inside a laboratory coat pocket, the device can complete SPE procedures within minutes. Users can also adapt it to accommodate almost any SPE format based on volume and working diameter.
The device gives each sample its own flow path, reducing the risk of cross-contamination. Individual sample control also helps prevent samples from drying out while others complete the elution process.
Biotech Fluidics also plans to release a fully automated version for managing the controlled flow of multiple parallel SPE procedures. Swedish patent SE547146.C2 covers the device’s design, and the company has filed patent applications in other markets.
