BrightSpec has introduced SpectrAline™ Cartridges, a new family of preconcentration columns developed with Restek Corporation to support molecular rotational resonance (MRR) spectroscopy workflows.
The companies designed and qualified the cartridges together, combining BrightSpec’s expertise in MRR applications with Restek’s manufacturing capabilities. The collaboration includes a multi-year supply agreement in which Restek manufactures the cartridges and BrightSpec delivers them as part of its MRR solution.
SpectrAline™ Cartridges target improved sample introduction for MRR analysis. They increase analyte delivery to the measurement region, which strengthens detection limits and supports reliable quantitation across a wider range of sample types.
Rick Gordon, CEO at BrightSpec, highlighted the role of sample introduction in MRR performance:
“MRR performance depends not only on the spectrometer, but on how efficiently and cleanly molecules are introduced into the measurement region. SpectrAline™ Cartridges are engineered to load more sample, concentrate trace-level components, and enable MRR analysis from matrices that were previously difficult or impractical—directly translating to higher sensitivity and an expanded application space.”
The cartridges support several workflow improvements that expand the practical use of MRR. These include:
- Enhanced sensitivity through optimized preconcentration and increased analyte delivery
- Improved sample loading efficiency with higher capacity and consistent transfer
- Access to challenging matrices that typically require extensive cleanup
- Minimal sample preparation to enable faster identification and quantification
These capabilities position the cartridges as a tool for routine analytical workflows that require both sensitivity and efficiency.
Restek emphasized the importance of reliable consumables in emerging analytical platforms. “For emerging analytical platforms to succeed, the consumables must be as reliable as the instrument itself," states Jeanine Pippitt, Chief Commercial Officer at Restek. "Our role is to provide a standardized, scalable chemistry that users can depend on every day. Together with BrightSpec, we’re delivering not just a component, but a complete and sustainable workflow solution.”
SpectrAline™ Cartridges integrate with BrightSpec’s current and upcoming MRR platforms. The companies plan to make them available for order beginning in June 2026.
The launch strengthens the link between sample introduction and MRR performance, with a focus on enabling broader application coverage and more consistent analytical outcomes.
