Just – Evotec Biologics Advances Biomanufacturing Optimization for Ebola Antibody Production

Evotec SE announced that its Seattle-based subsidiary, Just – Evotec Biologics, Inc., has entered a project agreement with the Biomedical Advanced Research and Development Authority (BARDA) Biopharmaceutical Manufacturing Preparedness Consortium (BioMaP-Consortium) to advance manufacturing optimization for monoclonal antibody therapeutics targeting filovirus diseases, including Ebola virus (EBOV) and Sudan virus (SUDV).

The multi-year program carries a potential value of up to $10 million if all options activate. The initiative supports BARDA’s goal to strengthen national preparedness by enabling cost-effective medical countermeasures that enhance the U.S. government’s response to hemorrhagic fever outbreaks.

While two FDA-approved therapeutics exist for Ebola Virus Disease, no approved treatments address infections caused by SUDV. The program aims to address this gap by improving manufacturing processes for antibody-based therapeutics.

Platform-Driven Process Development

Under the agreement, Just – Evotec Biologics will apply its validated technology platforms to support molecular optimization, cell line development, and manufacturing process development for two antibodies. These antibodies originate from survivors of the 2014 Ebola outbreak and reflect immune responses that may have protected infected individuals.

The company will convert these discoveries into scalable and cost-efficient manufacturing processes. The approach targets high-yield production to support both therapeutic development and rapid deployment during future public health emergencies.

Strengthening Biomanufacturing Preparedness

The BioMaP-Consortium brings together partners across the drug and vaccine manufacturing supply chain. Participants include raw material manufacturers, technology developers, and fill-finish service providers. The consortium focuses on expanding manufacturing capacity and flexibility to secure medical supplies for future health threats.

This project operates with funding from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services through BARDA under the Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR).

By advancing process intensification and scalable biologics production, the program aims to improve readiness for emerging infectious diseases while reducing manufacturing costs and timelines for antibody therapeutics.
