This fall, chromatographers head to Philadelphia to mark a milestone. PREP 2025 celebrates 40 years of advances in preparative and process-scale separation science.

PREP runs September 29 to October 2 with a tight program: practical training, focused workshops, and direct access to applied research. Each session addresses a core challenge—how to turn research outcomes into production-ready workflows.

Science Built for Production

PREP’s technical sessions focus on application. Topics include continuous purification, process analytical technology (PAT), mRNA and vector workflows, as well as the mechanics of scale-up. Case studies include resin reuse for AAV purification and pressure/flow control in multicolumn setups.

Two plenary speakers frame the discussion. Fabrice Gritti of Waters will present strategies for mRNA characterization that improve yield and reduce cost while supporting regulatory demands. Alois Jungbauer, from the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna, will compare convection and diffusion limits in packed beds.

Tools, Training, and Support

The meeting opens with a full day of workshops. These sessions support onboarding, troubleshooting, and system benchmarking. Morning vendor talks address automation platforms, pilot-scale hardware, and ligand design.

On the exhibit floor, attendees can explore updates on hardware, resin formats, and control systems from a range of technology providers. Attendees can compare tools and speak with engineers who build and service them.

A Historic Setting for a Shifting Field

The city has long played a role in separation science, from foundational resin work to today’s biomanufacturing innovation. PREP 2025 builds on that legacy with a forward focus. The closing session, The End of PREP 2025, outlines how separation workflows are adapting to cell and gene therapy, continuous manufacturing, and real-time analytics.
