SPT Labtech and Illumina Advance Automated Genomics Sample Preparation for Decentralized Healthcare

SPT Labtech has entered a strategic collaboration with Illumina to develop a novel automated sample preparation platform designed to streamline and standardize genomics workflows across decentralized healthcare environments.

The companies will develop an automated platform that supports laboratories using Illumina’s MiSeq i100 benchtop sequencing system. The solution aims to deliver standardized, automated workflows that enable laboratories to generate rapid, high-quality genomic insights closer to the point of care.

The collaboration targets improved patient care in oncology by expanding access to high-quality genomic characterization of disease. By bringing advanced automation to laboratories of all sizes, the companies aim to accelerate the delivery of actionable insights from sample to result.

The new platform builds on the existing partnership between SPT Labtech and Illumina, including development of automated library preparation methods on SPT Labtech’s firefly® platform. The companies now seek to extend automation, precision, and reproducibility to decentralized laboratories, providing capabilities typically associated with large core facilities.
