Thermo Fisher Scientific expanded its suite of Thermo Scientific Orbitrap mass spectrometry platforms, AI-enabled software, and integrated workflows at the American Society for Mass Spectrometry (ASMS) Conference. The expanded portfolio combines high-resolution accurate-mass technology with end-to-end solutions to scale innovation across research, drug development, and applied testing markets.
For complex biological research, the company introduced the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Tribrid Apex Mass Spectrometer (MS). This platform brings multiple capabilities together on a single system, integrating three mass analyzers, a new infrared laser option for alternative fragmentation, and Direct Mass Technology Mode. The platform delivers five times greater sensitivity, up to 100% sequence coverage in a single experiment, and results up to four times faster than previous-generation instruments.
To support drug development, the company unveiled the Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Excedion Mass Spectrometer. Engineered for applications ranging from drug metabolism studies to oligonucleotide and peptide analysis, the platform offers an enhanced dynamic range (eDR), enabling detection of three to five times more compounds in complex samples. For later-stage regulated bioanalysis and QA/QC, the company showcased the Thermo Scientific TSQ Certis Triple Quadrupole Mass Spectrometer, which measures samples 15% faster and runs more than twice as long between maintenance events.
Complementing these platforms, the new Vanquish Amplify UHPLC Systems utilize an inert, metal-free sample flow path engineered to minimize adsorption and secondary interactions. This design helps scientists analyze sensitive biological molecules with less sample loss and better reproducibility from method development through quality control.
For environmental and food safety laboratories, the new Thermo Scientific Orbitrap Exploris GC S Mass Spectrometer delivers high-resolution gas chromatography-mass spectrometry to modernize the analysis of dioxins and persistent organic pollutants (POPs). Offering more than twice the resolution of many existing systems, it helps laboratories identify emerging contaminants without additional instruments.

Recent software acquisitions, MSAID and Proteinaceous, strengthen the company's data processing ecosystem by adding AI, machine learning, and top-down and native mass spectrometry bioinformatics. These additions complement new software capabilities, such as Proteoform Studio, as well as updates to the Proteome Discoverer 3.4 and BioPharma Finder 5.5 software platforms.
